Narrative
Some researchers have made references to Granger, Texas, in connection to John Crocker's family. I find this questionable, as The Handbook of Texas Online [http://www.tsha.utexas.edu/handbook/online/articles/view/GG/hjg8.html] states that Granger "originated in 1882" and was "first named Pollack."
The 1870 census [http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/tx/austin/census/1870/0397b.gif] (1870 Nov 3) places the family in Industry, Austin Co. (Precinct 5), Texas. The family:
John, aged 24, farm renter, with personal property worth $200(!)
Lucinda, 30, 'keeping house,' born in Missouri
Mary, 9, and Bora (identified elsewhere as Burrah), 7, both born in Texas -- They are Lucinda's children by Jonathan Burrah CRAIG
Ada, 3, and Thomas "8/12" (yet born in December!), both born in Texas
There IS a Crocker family living in Granger in 1910, however: the family of J. T. (or J. F) Crocker, possibly John's brother, James T.
Note on burial: A "J. T." Crocker is buried in Block 4 of the Grainger City Cemetery with 'no marker, no names.' This may or may not be John Crocker or the young Thomas Crocker, but I feel fairly certain that it is actually the J. T. Crocker, mentioned above.
