New York In My Nose

A country-western lament

I been there I loved it Manhattan is swell
The people were friendly my fears they dispelled
And even the Bronx zoo was strangely aglow
But I still got New York in my nose

The city is lovely the weather was fine
There’s wonderful restaurants at which you can dine
With drinks down at Barrymore’s and all the best shows
But I still got New York in my nose

Every time that I would blow my nose I always was astounded
At the ugly stuff that would be there
It’s amazing how the people live with all this shit that seems to
Always be just hanging in the air

They’ve worked on the subways they still smell like hell
There’s trash in the gutters and people as well
I’m back home in Texas it’s time to compose
But I still got New York in my nose
