Narrative
William Witherington II (1773-1837), father of Daniel, received an Ensign's Commission in the 17th Regiment, Mississippi Territory, while living in East Feliciana Parish, Louisiana. His commission was issued July 7, 1813 and was signed by Govenor David Holmes of the Mississippi Territory. It is said that William Witherington II fought in the Battle of New Orleans.
