Nicholas Wallingford arrived in America aboard the Confidence, which set sail from Southampton, England, in 1638. He is listed as "Nicholas Wallingford, a Poore boy."
This may reflect the family story that he was an indentured servant. Sterling Jones, Jr. opines that the term
probably referred to the Poore family in England who may have insured his return passage fee in case he decided to return. Nicholas is thought to have been on a seven year indenture to probably Stephan Kent.
[He is listed on the passenger lists in the midst of Stephen Kent's servants, through not identified as such.]
Lickliter has the following:
Nicholas Wallingford... arrived in Massachusetts from England, in 1638. He married Sarah Travis on 30 Aug 1654. She was the daughter of Henry & Bridget Travis. One account says that Nicholas was captured by Barbary pirates ca 1681. Another says that he drowned at sea. Whichever the case, he disappeared leaving a widow and 13 children behind. From these 13 children, are descended the vast majority of the the Wallingford Family in America.
