Narrative

Harold D. Applegate passed away peacefully at his home located in Wilson’s Bottom on Sunday, February 20, 2011.

Harold was born April 30, 1929 at his parent’s home in the Pine Valley community of Lewis County. He was the son of Clifford V. and Louie Wallingford Applegate and a graduate of Tollesboro High School, Class of 1948. Harold was a lifelong farmer and avid gardener. He also served in the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington.

Harold was preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years, Pauline, who passed away on January 7, 2011. He is survived by his beloved children, Clifford Holton Applegate and his wife Dina Lynn Polley Applegate of Tollesboro and Dee Anna Applegate Hatfield and her husband Richard D. Hatfield of Louisville. He has five wonderful grandchildren, Ryan J. Kennedy and his wife (Sherri Bielert Kennedy) of Brooksville, Harold Dean Applegate and his wife (Mindy Ann Wright) of Tollesboro, Ashley Holton Applegate of Tollesboro, Leslie Brooke Hatfield Johnson and her husband (Patrick) of Murray, and William Holton Hatfield of Louisville. Harold was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Jesse Wade and Savannah Brooke Kennedy of Brooksville. Harold leaves his two sisters, Lora Mae Holt of Fort Worth, Texas, and Martha Hardin and her husband (Edgar) of Tollesboro; three nephews; three nieces, and countless friends.

Harold was a member of the Pine Valley Christian Church and also attended the Sand Hill Christian Church.

Mr. Applegate was a member of the St. Mary’s Masonic Lodge #240, Scottish Rite and the El Hasa Shrine Temple.

Masonic Rites were performed at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 23, 2011, at Barbour and Son Funeral Home.

Services were at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 24, 2011, at Pine Valley Christian Church with Bro. John Byard and Bro. Phil Cropper officiating. Burial was in Pine Valley Christian Church Cemetery.

Barbour and Son Funeral Home in Tollesboro was in charge of arrangements.
