Narrative
As of 2005 May 25 (see http://www.rootsweb.com/~okbits/burneyacad.html), the old Burney Academy, also called Burney Institute and the Chickasaw Orphan Home and Manual Labor School, may still be found on private land off State Highway 32 east of Lebanon, Oklahoma. According to the author of that web site, Vicki Bell-Reynolds, the owners of the property were at time contemplating tearing it down.
It was announced 2006 January that the Chickasaw Nation had purchased this historic site along with its 176 acres. Restoration is planned.
