Narrative

Originally part of Rowley, MA, and known by various names that refered to the Merrimack River, the town was named Bradford in 1672. It was named for Bradford in Yorkshire, England, as some of the early settlers had emigrated from there. [For more information of Bradford, England, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bradford] Part of the town of Bradford became Groveland in 1850 and other parts were annexed to Haverhill in 1897.
